McKinstry Moments: Woodstock Fair 2015

As summer drew to a close and school began, the the time for the Shenandoah County Fair rolled around too. This has become somewhat of an annual tradition for us, and though we considered trying out others in the area this year, it just didn't work out.

Woodstock holds their county fair later than the others, and we definitely didn't want to miss it - being the last one of the year. It is bragged to be the oldest and largest fair in the valley.

While I wasn't too impressed with the steak and cheese sub I got, Hadley liked her corn dog! The oysters from Joe's Steakhouse were delicious too.

Though this is such a fun local attraction this time a year and a place for some good country fun, it can be very expensive. By the time you pay to get in, buy your food, and purchase tickets for rides, it is easy to spend way more than you realize. Having three little ones, we knew that we'd have to limit some of that, so we told them before we got there that they could each pick one ride rather than spending $20 a piece for the all-you-could-ride bracelets. NaNa, who met up with us there, also bought them each a ride. But, even limited to just two a piece, it was still a bit high since a lot of the rides required that the kids have an adult to ride with them. In the end, though it ended up being a good choice because, not only did we save money, we also saved time. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had time to scope out all the farm animals we'd been hoping to see while we were there.

Reid was too little for the Ferris wheel, but he loved these trucks.

As they went round and round, you could tell that he really thought he was driving...very serious.

We took a look at some of the produce and handmade exhibits, admiring their work and checking out the ribbons...

then on to the livestock.

While we were checking out the pigs, we had a scare. When we got to the pen, we saw a boy laying on top of one of the big hogs, who appeared to be unresponsive. We ran for help, worried something had happened to him, but come to find out he had just fallen asleep on top his pet pig....Shew! Scared the life out of us!

We though Reid was going to be so excited about the animals like he usually is, but he was getting tired by that point. and wasn't as enthused as we'd expected. Caleb, on the other hand, was having a great time - all smiles!
