One of the great parts about doing t-ball this spring is that it got everyone outdoors. All of my kids love getting out in the fresh air and exploring, so as the warm weather approached, we really tried to make getting outside a priority.
Sometimes we'd just sneak out for a bit to have lunch or dinner on the porch...
...other times we'd spent good chunks of time getting dirty and letting a little energy out. Granny's was a great spot for this. The kids found a downed log and an old trail up in the woods behind her house and did a lot of "hiking" and nature hunting while Granny and I watched from the porch. (Well, until they went out of sight and Mommy had to hike up that big hill and through all that mess to drag them back.) It was a good way to get in a bit of P.E., science, and just being kids!
I really wanted to get outside with them everyday, but the rain didn't always permit it. Sometimes yucky weather turned into a good thing though - an opportunity for a little girl to try out her raincoat...
...or little boys to check out mud puddles. I may have had a mess to clean up when we got back inside, but it was worth it.
Caleb said he was making soup as he cautiously perched on the side of this huge puddle. Like me, he'd prefer not to get wet and muddy.
Reid, on the other hand....
...took his shoes off and jumped right in!
It rained so much in the month of May that we could have gotten discouraged just watching it pour day after day while we sat inside, but thankfully even that worked out since our early vacation planning had us in the Florida sunshine during those cold, dreary Virginia days. We had a few cold ones when we returned but June was right around the corner to heat things up. Hello, Summer!
